Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Without Sugar

Increased consumption of sugar is not recommended due to its adverse effects such as increased blood sugar levels as in case of diabetes and obesity due to increased consumption of calories. In fact, sweet lovers too are aware of the dangerous effects of increased consumption of sweet. It is just the craving for sweets that they cannot control and continue consuming the sweets.

Here are some introducing ways to fulfill your cravings for sweets without using sugar:

• The leaves of stevia plant help in replacing sugar. The leaves are very sweet. However, it is not possible to replace stevia for sugar completely in certain foods such as cakes which obtain the moistness from the sugar content. Another drawback is that increased use of stevia gives bitter taste to the foods. Hence, it is recommended to use stevia only for foods that require very little amount of sugar content.

• Another way to control the extent of sweet consumption is by drinking a glass of water before having the sweet. This will curb the amount of sweet consumption.

• A simple way to satisfy the sweet cravings is consumption of fruits. Fruits contain natural sugars that are safe for the health. Ninety percent of your craving for sweets gets satisfied by increased consumption of fruits.

• By eating a Popsicle rather than a candy, you can satisfy your sweet tooth without consuming more of sugar. A Popsicle remains for a long time and satisfies you. It is also possible that as your craving may end in the middle of the Popsicle and quit eating it.

• Some people consume sugar free ice cream to satisfy their craving for sweets. But, remember your craving will only increase further. Instead, a good idea is to consume a small quantity of regular ice-cream that keeps you satisfied for a very long time and reduces the extent of sweet consumption.

• An easy way to shut your sugar cravings is by practicing exercises for certain period of time. This helps in the release of certain brain chemicals that help in controlling the cravings and keep you in good mood.

• Never skip a meal. This will only worsen your cravings for sweets. Have a healthy meal to keep your cravings under control. If you cannot resist the craving for sugar, consider having a mildly sweet side dish.

• A healthy way to consume sweets is choosing desserts rich in fruits. This type of desserts greatly reduce the extent of sugar as most of sweetness is contributed by fruits that are not only less in sugar content but are also healthy and serve to meet the body needs of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals.

• The use of artificial sweeteners is an excellent way to satisfy the sweet tooth without adding sugar. However, they are not suitable for everyone. Some people are allergic to these artificial sweeteners and should avoid it.
